Last fall we made a post entitled “What Are The Elements of An Authentic Greek Gyro?

In it, I included a simple fact that our lamb and beef, which we hand-stack and season then stab onto a 2-foot spit before placing in the rotisserie, came from our local vendor partner Sparrow Market over in the Kerrytown Market & Shops.

We’d like congratulate our partner, and inform you about their new website which recently launched: http://sparrowmarket.com.

In addition to being a nice looking theme and design, the website is informative. You can learn a little more about the Sparrow family, meet the Market Team and read some Frequently Ask Questions answers. You can even ask your own if you have a question about meat, poultry, what goes well with a certain cut or what’s the right length of time to brine a turkey for Thanksgiving. Anything!

Sparrow Market is not just about meats!

You already know that as a full-fledged butcher you’re going to find beef, veal, lamb, specialty sausages, Amish poultry, and maybe even some exotic birds. But did you know you can find produce as well?

  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Lemons
  • Grapes
  • Pineapples
  • Plums &
  • Nectarines

  • Tomatoes
  • Lettuce
  • Onions
  • Beets
  • Peperoncino
  • Cucumbers

And more!

All the ingredients you need if you want to make your own Greek Salad at home and follow it up with an Apple Pie or an Ambrosia ‘Greek Food of the Gods’ Salad. You can even find Feta cheese in the cooler or mini-marshmallows on the shelf.

A Gathering Place!

Sparrow Market is more than just a butcher, more than just a produce shop, it’s an all you need full-fledged market to prepare that special meal at home (when you’re not ordering from Mezes Greek Grill).

As is stated on the website:

Sparrow Market is not just a trip to the grocery store. It is an outing. A place where one is bound to walk into someone he or she knows while shopping, eating lunch, or sipping coffee.
